Paddlers will experience the serene beauty and rugged wilderness of the area. More than 100 miles of canoe routes surround the village of Saranac Lake. Touring the Adirondacks by canoe or kayak is a must for any outdoor enthusiast, kayaking in Lake Champlain or paddling down the lazy waters of the Schroon River.
Experience the scenice beauty of the Adirondacks by bike. Road bike the 18-mile Paul Smiths loop, the 22-mile Forest Home loop, or the 34 mile North Branch loop. Mountain bike down the Whitefact Mt. and Mt. Van Hoevenberg, bike the Trombley Landing, Keese Mills-Blue Mountain Rd, Otter Hollow Loop Trail, Slush Pond Horse Trail, Floodwood Loop Trail and Deer Pond Loop Trail.
With more than 2,000 miles of marked hiking trails, everyone is sure to find the perfect route to explore the Adirondacks by foot. Whether it's a gradual family climb on Mt. Baker off Moody Pond or a steep climb on Ampersand Mt. off Route 3 West 8 miles from Saranac Lake, make sure to experience the dramatic scenery of the Adirondacks first hand.
Whether you choose an isolated campsite such as on an island in the Saranac Lakes or a campground with services, camping is a great way to discover the area. Dozens of private and public campgrounds offer a range of amenities including hook-ups and laudry facilities.
Lure or fly, fishing is a passion in the Adirondacks. Almost every species of freshwater fish you can imagine including the small and large-mouth bass and Atlantic salmon can be found in the thousands of wilderness lakes, rivers and streams. Lake Champlain is legendary amoung trophy fishermen and Ausable River amoung fly fishermen.
With over 40 courses in the Adirondacks, you'll have a lot of opportunities to enjoy the game as well as the views! Ranging from comfortable family greens to some of the world's best 18- and 36-hole courses.
The greatest vertical drop in the East is located on Whiteface Mt. The best natural snow conditions in northern New York are in Big Tupper. With so many trails to choose from and terrain ample for beginners and intermediate skiers, everyone can enjoy the winter wonderland of the Adirondacks.
With ample opportunities for the novice and veteran climber, the Adirondacks offers some of the best rock climbing in the Eastern United States.
With waves up to six feet, some of the best inland water windsurfing in the world can be found at Lake Champlain. There are also smaller bodies of water for windsurfers of all levels.
Take a short trot or a day-trip on horseback on one of the dozens of public and private wilderness trails. Another way to take in the majestic beauty of the Adirondacks.
